The Philippines is All In for the adidas King of the Road 2012

Thousands of participants fought to the finish as they vied for the ‘adidas King of the Road Philippines 2012’ crown at the Bonifacio City Global grounds.

Demonstrating the brand’s exceptional commitment to the running sport, the adidas KOTR annually gathers runners from all over the world – with special participation of runners from Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, and Malaysia, to compete in a bid to be crowned as the adidas SouthEast Asia ‘King of the Road’.

As early as four in the morning, the Bonifacio Global City grounds witnessed thousands of enthusiastic participants prepare for the very first gunstart at 5AM. This year’s race had 7,000 registered runners competing in three categories – 5K, 10K, and 16.8K. Routes were made more colorful and vibrant as runners were encouraged and empowered to achieve personal breakthroughs by organizers-cum-cheerleaders scattered all through out the racing grounds. Celebrities also made personal breakthroughs or supported the race such as Solenn Heussaff, Isabelle Daza, Karylle, Yael Yuzon of Spongecola, Robi Domingo, Donita Rose, Will DeVaughn and Michelle Madrigal.

The 16.8K Closed (All-Filipino) category is the most distinctive signature distance in the adidas SEA KOTR as winners from the previous legs in Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia, together with the Philippine leg winners will be flown to represent their countries. The Philippines’ King and Queen of the Road for this category are Eduardo Buenavista with a runing time of 00:54:39 and Mary Grace delos Santos with a total running time of 01:03:22.

For the 16.8K Open (International) category, the winners were Willy Rotich with a running time of 00:53:47 and Jackline Musyawa Nzivo with 01:03:04 running time.

Continuing the tradition of pushing people to achieve their personal breakthroughs, adidas culminates this year’s KOTR SEA Championship Leg in Singapore. The race will begin and end in the lion city’s newest iconic landmark – the Gardens by the Bay. Around 12,000 runners are expected to participate as adidas aims to gather the best of the best from five countries to run by Singapore’s newest 100-hectare park.
