The simplicity of running as it nature became so expensive. Sana yung mga fun run ngayon ay maging reasonable when it comes to registration fees. Winners of local races should also be given chance to represent the country in international races, if the government can’t support them, there’s a lot of private agency and companies that can help these athletes. After all, when they win, the whole country share the glory and honor.

siguro it’s time to change na using plastic cups in hydration stations. imagine thousands of runners in every week’s events consuming at least each plastic cups every hydration station. encourage runners to use reusable hydration bottles. that small step can help the environment in the long RUN. thank you.

  3. Finisher Medal – all the runners will have finisher medal. All categories must have one once they finished the race. Why? – because not all of us can make it to 21K to 42K. It will serve not just as a souvenir but as part of their history that they join and enjoy that race. So they will look forward of joining to the next fun run.

  4. It would be great if people from other countries would be invited as well to participate in Filipino marathons since we already have world-class events being organized here (just like how people from all over the world join the Berlin or NY marathons). Running in the Philippines is more fun in a lot of ways. It will also help boost tourism in our country.

if i have a power siguro gusto kong baguhin yung masyadong expensive na mga registration, because hindi lahat ng runners can afford at yung ibang runners gusto lang naman tumakbo and for sure gusto din nilang isama yung family nila ,kaya lang sa sobrang mahal ng ibang mga run hindi na sila nakakasali.

First, I want to impose that registration fees in fun runs/marathons would be cheap enough so a lot of people could join, coz one of the reasons why people are hesitant to join is the registration fee. They would say “tatakbo na nga lang ako magbabayad pa ako ng mahal…” so its hard to encourage people to join even you tell them its for a good cause and to get fit. We can always help in any amount we can. Sometimes its not all about the money/price maybe we can let the runners join the fun run for free in exchange of being one of the volunteers who would help, for example in the feeding program (which where and why we the fun runs/marathon) etc.

Second, BYOB! Runners should always bring their own bottle. Less trash and one way of helping to save our nature.

Third, I know all fun runs and marathons are for a good cause. But let’s all make it a good cause for less fortunate children’s education, for our nature/environment, feeding program and for the sick people who need medical assistance. And let the people witness where the reg fee go; let some of the runners join and help in the turn over of the money or in the program.

Fourth, encourage runners to run by heart. Not just because they want the kits (singlet, medal, freebies, etc.) or because their friends asked them to join or whatsoever. Run because you really want to help and you run by heart.

Fifth, let us all make fun runs/marathon simple. Sometimes the true and real essence of fun runs/marathon was lost.

If you will have the power to change something in the local races/fun runs today, what would it be? and why?

The stigma in today’s running events, the high prices, the commercialism, the way runners and race organizers give more importance to singlet design, finisher shirts freebies and medals rather than the run itself. Its commercialism and the running community is forced to swallow these bloatedness in order to run at the selected venue. Running is supposed to be a free sport. We need to go back to the basics…All we really need is our set of feet, with running shoes or just simply barefoot, and the will to Run. At the end of the day, that’s all it really is about.

I want to have all running organizer to have a supported Foundation regardless of its cause. I will be a proud moments to all runners see that they supported and organization. So that runner will run for what they want to support. It should be a must requirement in Running Event. (Run for a Cause) to avoid hearsay that the run was for business. (No supported Foundation or Organizaton no Fun Run Activity)
Let’s support Run for Cause. Aja Aja Fighting

And my answer to your question:

At hydration station, I want to change how runners throw paper cups on the bin. I wish they could throw them on the right place. Even though designated cleaners will clean them up, I think it still shows a wrong image when they throw it anywhere else on the road.

Second, I would like the organizers to put more emphasis and presentation on what charity we’re running for (if any) and the output after the run (e.g. some sort of video of what really happen to the charity, on what we’ve paid for).

And lastly, since run events are say more trending sports nowadays, I think organizers should oblige runners, especially new runners to do a clearance health check-up from their physicians (certificate from their physician) and more awareness info about the sports of running (e.g. info about training, right nutrition, etc.). On my 21k run, just this January 2013, someone died of Cardiac Arrest. I’m kind of traumatize since it’s my first half-marathon, I never thought some really dies in this sport (my cousin also warned me about running a long distant run and this is a thing I or we should get serious about).

That’s a lot but win or not, hope my suggestions will help.

    Thanks 🙂

  11. I WILL CHANGE TWO THINGS:
1.HIGHER REG FEES: HOW CAN WE HELP POOR RUNNER/PEOPLE TO CHANGE THEIR LIFESTYLE IF THEY CANT JOIN THE EVENT BECAUSE OF THE FEES. . .
    2. REGULATE ALL RUNNING EVENT: WE DO RUN BUT WE DONT KNOW WHAT WE ARE RUNNING FOR . . .IN SHORT THE CAUSE SHOULD ALWAYS BE EMPHASIZE.

  13. If i could change one thing about races today, it’d be the gunstart. Running at night is cooler than running in the morning, and let’s you enjoy an easy pace for a long run without worrying of getting darker.

  14. If i have the power to change something in the local races/fun runs today, what would it be? and why?

RUNNING, as we know is a risky sport. And our lives are in risk whenever we run on highways and open roads. If I have the power to change something in local races today, I would recomend to create a new venue for a RUN, creating a RUNNING LANE for the use of every RUNNERS in the metro would be a great help to ensure most importantly the safety and the security of every runners! RUNNING LANE can be a accident FREE environment!

There are lot of changes that must be done in funrun event in our country.
    1. Organizers should encourage runners to bring their own non-disposable water containers, I see that every event thousands of plastic cups are used and usually end up in landfills. Take note that plastic lasts for about 500 yrs. Bring your own hydration bottle.
    2. I have problem with shirt ever since, organizer might not realize that most Filipino runners have small body size— but why are there still shortages in small sizes of singlets or running shirts. They must print 60% small size, 30% Medium and 10% Large size.
    3. FunRun event normally have charity or institution or beneficiaries that they say they will give some or all proceeds or income from funrun. They must regulate that at least 90% of income must go into that beneficiary.
    4. Traffic, Traffic, Traffic everytime there is run event. Organizers must also encourage runners to commute using mass public transportation, so that traffic and pollution will be lessen. Imagine if there are 10,000 runners— how can the parking lot accommodate 10,000 cars. Remember that running will keep your body healthy but it must also keep our environment healthy as well. Commute or walk if house is near or use your bike instead.
    5. Lastly, admit it! Most of us want to have this event memorable by having our picture taken. Organizers should recruit lots and lots of photographers — Runners want that memorable pictures! To tell you the truth I would exchange my loot bag for that one memorable best running shot.

  17. I want to change the registration fee, all running events should have a cause and finally a required medical certificate for them to run…

** run for a cause – if ever may kamahalan yung reg fee, be sure that there will be some charities that will benefit. don’t forget to indicate sa mga posters and flyers. para alam ng tao na may patutunguhan yung pera na pinangregister. 🙂
** medic – hopefully mas madaming medic station along the run sa mga events kasi first priority naman yung health ng tao, yung iba kasi sa starting/finish line lang meron. tska sana maging mas active yung mga tao sa medic stations.
** medal / finisher shirt / certificate – sana merong matanggap na medal or finisher shirt and certificate after the race. it serves as a reward na din yun sa mga finishers na natapos nila yung race.
** freebies – sana madaming freebies sa mga sponsors. haha. yung ibang tumatakbo kasi, mas naa-appreciate pag madaming freebies.

If i have the power to change something in the local races/fun runs today. it would be the medical personnel. Lots of medical personnel is not trained well. Because i have a trauma in my fun run. There is a victim that collapse in the middle of his run.The medic who came to rescue the man is not a professional or not well trained man. because i notice, overcrowd people near the victim and the position of the client (patient) is wrong because the victim is in the hysterical moment and his mouth is bubbling. The medic man position the client in a supine position which is not appropriate. The wrong there is, he did not control the crowd and not positioning in a side lying or sitting position. Sad to say the man died. I hope this will never happen again. So we need a well trained medical personnel.

If I’ll be having the power t0 change something in the local races today, that would be the use of disposal cups in the hydration station, much better if all the runners will bring tumblers or containers so that garbage would be lessen.

If I have the power to change something in the local races/fun runs today, I would recommend that all race organizer must require to give a piece of banana to every single runner (before, during or after a race event). I think banana should be the food essential because we can benefit from this fruit like prevention of cramps, cancer, and high blood pressure. Also, banana is a good source of nutrients and carbohydrates. Let us make it a standard for every race!

A banana every run a day, keeps runners strong, healthy and fun all the way!

If I have the power to change something in the local races/fun runs today, it would be the DISCIPLINE of every (beginner or experienced) runners. DISCIPLINE must shown toward the race, just like the government advocacy to at least alleviate the global warming and climate change, everybody must do their job at least on their little own way. Proper throwing of cups into trash bins is a must! As much as possible, bring your own hydration. They say that the reflection of one’s attitude is through his actions. We as a runner should posses this kind of attitude,”DISCIPLINE”!.

    1. Provide an accident insurance for all registered runners.
    2. Offer a 10%-20% discount on registration fees for runners who have participated in at least five races in the last 2 or 3 mos. (maybe, bibs from the last 5 races should be presented for verification and will be stamped so that others cannot use it again)
    3. There should be rules regarding the “WALKERS” and “PHOTOSHOOTERS” during the race and these rules should be strictly implemented. (In respect na rin for runners who really trained hard to get their PR.)
    4. Plastic cups should not be used, let’s go green!
    5. Include an opening prayer to the race program.
