Fourteen young athletes were introduced to the media last Saturday, October 11 at NBA Café Manila, SM Aura, Taguig City. The 14 basketball players will be sent to Beijing, China to represent Alaska Philippines in the Jr NBA and Jr WNBA games. The team will compete with their counterparts from Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. Aside from the friendship games, the team will also have a tour in Beijing, including the one of the seven wonders of the world, The Great Wall of CHina.

The 14 Jr NBA and Jr WNBA players are:

Amsali, Rhayyan (M)
Belangel, Sanjosef (M)
Dolendo, Vince Leo (M)
Rocamora, Jethro (M)
Manalang, Paul Mathew (M)
Narvasa, Jan Cyril (M)
Umadhay, David Leonardo (M)
Velasco, Luis Miguel (M)
Velasco, Andrew Vincent (M)
Binaohan, Kreecie Bettina (F)
Lanot, Arielle Marie (F)
Salvador, Roxanne (F)
Pingol, Karl Ann (F)
Pascual, Mary Jean (F)

The Alaska Jr NBA and JR WNBA will be handled by Coach Pia Dysangco and Coach Cliff Andy Tecocan.

During the sent off party, the whole team were asked by the press about how they prepared for the competition and how they feel about representing the Alaska, they’re most memorable experience during the draft and all. Most of the players are very shy to answer the questions and I can see the rawness of their personality. Very shy, humble and down to earth. I hope these kids stay with that attitude until they grow up.

It was really nice to see young kids being active in sports. I believe that sports is the best teacher of hardwork, discipline and teamwork. Kudos to Alaska Milk Corporation for providing basketball and other sport clinics to our kids today and for training and giving them the opportunities to become better athletes.

Good luck to the Team and Enjoy Beijing!
