After one year of stay at one of the biggest fitness clubs in the country, I decided to bring my fitness journey to another level. That’s why when I got the chance to try crossfit in Mad Minute Makati, I immediately said yes! I signed up for their Crossfit 101, a special class for crossfit beginners. The class is composed of 9 sessions, which will last for almost a month and is held every Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays.

I’m already on my third and final week now and so far, I’ve been enjoying all the workouts we’ve had. The classes here are very different from the usual group classes and exercises that we know from the popular fitness clubs. While we all love to do body combat, body jam, rpm classes, etc., the crossfit 101 classes is very different in so many ways. Here’s why:

It’s a learning class. Before every session, there is a short discussion of what to do, how to do it and why we need to do it. The coaches of Crossfit Mad Minute are all Certified Crossfit Trainers and really teach very well. They will explain, demonstrate and teach you how to execute the work out without getting yourself injured. They will also correct your posture and teach you techniques to make the work out easier and suitable for you.

Coaches are always ready to help and assist the members in their workouts.

There’s a friendly competition. After the short lecture and demo, participants will have to accomplish the Workout of the Day (WOD). WOD’s are usually a series of workouts and is timed. While they always remind you not to compete with others and just focus on yourself, I think it’s a human nature to be competitive. When you see other people finishing fast, you tend to speed up your movement. When you see someone pushing hard to finish the work out and you almost want to quit, you will also push your self more. It could be competition or maybe, inspiration. Whatever it is that pushes you to finish the work out, it’s all good, I think.

Are you ready for a Tire Flip workout? 🙂

The motivation. The coaches and the other members of the crossfit box are very supportive to the newbies. They will cheer for you and motivate you to finish the work out when they see that you’re getting tired and almost giving up. “Go Cj! Good job Cj! Nice work Cj!”All those encouraging words can really help you finish your last 10 burpees after 3 sets of a heavy work out. Haha.

Walang Arte. I think the main peg of Crossfit gyms today is to just work out hard and get results and nothing else. It teaches you to focus on what you really want, what your fitness goals are and why are you working out.

So, if you think crossfit is for you, you might want to try their free trial every first and last Saturdays of the month. You may visit their FB page:  for more details.

And also, if you want to join the new batch of Crossfit 101 for December, here are the details:

Let’s work out and sweat it out while we are still young, when we get old we won’t be able to do all these things.
